Writing Coaches of Missoula seeks to mentor 420 eighth-graders

The Writing Coaches of Missoula is getting the word out this year with an ambitious new literacy push in Missoula’s schools.

The program has a goal of putting 420 eighth-graders in touch with hundreds of volunteers in Missoula County Public Schools district classrooms, in a total of 1,600 individual student conferences.

"We’ve never done an organized effort like this," said Writing Coaches of Missoula coordinator Diane Benjamin. "Before, it’s been kind of ad hoc. And we’re trying to get away from ad hoc."
