St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula among 3 Montana hospitals facing cuts in their Medicare reimbursements because of poor scores in a program designed to reduce the rate of illnesses and injuries that patients acquire in hospitals.

St. Patrick Hospital http://montana.providence.org/ in Missoula, St. James Hospital in Butte, and Northern Montana Health Center in Havre will all suffer the reduction, according to federal data analyzed by Kaiser News Service.

The hospitals were rated on numerous "hospital-acquired conditions," or HACs, such as infections and other complications in patients.

Among the 13 Montana hospitals subject to the program, Great Falls Clinic Medical Center had the best (lowest) total HAC score.
