Public school leaders in Montana are fastening their seatbelts. It looks like the 2015 Legislature is going to be a bumpy ride.
The session that starts Jan. 5 promises more head-on collisions between those on the right who want "school choice" like charter schools and tax credits for private school scholarships and those on the left who denounce such ideas as unconstitutional "privatization."

Pre-K and school choice could divide lawmakers in 2015
The key House Education Committee is stacked with lawmakers he said are "seriously biased and prejudiced … against public education."
Rep. Sarah Laszloffy, R-Laurel, is the daughter of Montana Family Foundation president Jeff Laszloffy, one of the state’s most influential school-choice advocates.
Freshman Rep. Debra Lamm, R-Livingston, lobbied in favor of Montana Family Foundation-backed school choice bills in the 2011 and 2013 Legislative sessions.
Knudsen tapped Rep. Laszloffy to chair the House Education Committee and Lamm will serve as vice chairwoman.
