Montana Legislature OKs new tax break for wind energy

The MDT Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program encourages and supports the participation of companies owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals in transportation contracts.

Calgary, Alta.,-based Montana Alberta Tie Ltd. last week praised the Montana Legislature for its passage of House Bill 3, a measure intended to help develop "clean and green" energy projects in Montana.

MATL plans to build a transmission line between Great Falls and Lethbridge, Alta., through eastern Teton County. The initial customers for the project are wind developers, which need access to transmission for their projects to go forward.
