Montana group keeps focus on education funding for state’s school system.
School officials in Montana believe the state still isn’t coming up with the money it should for public education – but, for now, they’re not going back to court to make their point.
Instead, they’re focusing on persuading the powers that be that school funding still needs fixing if Montana is to maintain a solid system of public schools for all citizens.
“It’s not the court that will solve this problem,” says Mike Nicosia, vice president of the group that spearheaded the lawsuit leading to the 2004 court decision declaring Montana’s funding of schools inadequate. “It’s the governor’s office and the individual legislators. That’s where we need to solve this problem.”
