Mentor became so much more for grad – The Mentoring Network
The blue light of the MIG welder reflected off Ray Bennett’s shirt and helmet visor as he stood close, watching Jess Dalrymple work the metal.
Once a week for the past nine years, man and boy have forged a bond, most recently each Wednesday in Vallivue High School’s ag/tech shop. This Wednesday they were there again, possibly for the last time.
Dalrymple, 17, graduates from Vallivue on Thursday, and Bennett, 81, will be in the stands at the Idaho Center, cheering him on. And though the mentorship that brought them together — a pairing arranged by the Mentoring Network http://www.mentoringnetworkid.org/about.html — has come to an end, both say their relationship is far from over.
