Hellgate High School (Missoula, Montana) senior, Callie Woody, raises money for new school in Ghana

College applications and homework are piling up and Callie Woody is scrambling to meet deadlines.

Typically, these would be the most pressing priorities for a high school senior, but Woody has been preoccupied lately. The 17-year-old’s focus has been somewhere else, somewhere far away – in Ghana, where she lived during a six-month exchange program.

In a village school near the home of Woody’s host family, children are crammed into classrooms. A part of the school collapsed. Only the frame remains. Come the next rainy season, the headmaster says it is sure to wash completely away.

Moved by what she saw, the Hellgate High School http://www.mcps.k12.mt.us/portal/Default.aspx?alias=www.mcps.k12.mt.us/portal/hhs student asked how she could help.

Rebuild the school, replied the headmaster.

So that’s exactly what Woody is doing.
