Economic vitality derives from investment in education
Colorado must find innovative ways of addressing the higher costs of teaching science, technology, engineering and mathematics or face losing its competitive edge and jobs to other states, said Colorado State University President Larry Edward Penley in a white paper released on Feb. 16.
Penley proposes the state closely examine its spending on these fields since they are most directly linked to economic innovation, progress and vitality.
"Colorado’s major universities cannot continue to teach the workforce of tomorrow without a major financial investment today," Penley said. "The future economic viability of the state is at stake."

You probably have some of the best in the state,” Riley told Daleville citizens and leaders from the community throughout the Wiregrass who attended the banquet. “But why for most of your adult life has Alabama consistently, almost habitually been ranked 48th, 49th, and 50th in most things that are good?”
In front of a crowd of approximately 380 people, Riley quoted a University of Alabama economist saying, “Alabama is on the cusp of magnificence.” Riley said that in the last three years, Alabama has made a remarkable turnaround.
