Bozeman tracking its greenhouse gas emissions electronically with new software

City of Bozeman Sustainability Coordinator Natalie Meyer can turn on her computer, click on a program and see exactly how much fuel each city police cruiser used last year.

She can also see how much the city spent on electricity to power its streetlights or what it cost to heat City Hall.

"Bozeman is the first city in the entire state to automate the tracking of energy, municipal solid waste, recycling, transportation fuel and water consumption," said Jonas Grenz, one of three partners in Gradient Systems http://www.gradientsystems.com/
, the Bozeman company that created the software the city is using.
