Wind power coming on strong in northwestern states

Wind energy did not dominate the Montana Energy Symposium in Bozeman this week the way coal power did, but nearly every speaker mentioned it and one “breakout” session was devoted to wind energy.

Nearly everyone seemed pleased with the wind farm going up south of Judith Gap. In his opening remarks at the Montana State University Brick Breeden Field House, Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D-Mont.) said how proud he was of the Judith Gap wind-power project.

Wind farms, like the one being built in Judith Gap, are being considered in other parts of the West.

But though most speakers considered wind a good source of energy, they indicated its potential in Montana is far lower than the potential for coal.
