Broadband VoIP without an adapter

Now that VoIP-over-broadband has caught on in a big way, it appears that it will only be a matter of time before developers find a way to eliminate the adapter that is currently required by broadband VOIP providers such as AT&T and Vonage.

DataLogic’s IPN Communications subsidiary this week said it would license its VoIP calling device technology to phone manufacturers, who would then be able to build dual-mode VOIP/TDM phones.

The announcement comes just weeks after reports surfaced that Intel would build VoIP-over-broadband capability into a computer chip, potentially freeing every new computer buyer of the need for a VoIP adapter or a dual-mode phone.
