Qwest Settlement Cuts Telephone Rates by $16M, Expands DSL Service

Qwest, which serves 260,000 telephone customers in Montana, has agreed to settle a five-year-old dispute over its rates and services by cutting rates $16 million a year and expanding high-speed Internet into 27 small towns.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Public Service Commissioner Ken Toole, D-Helena, who filed a consumer complaint against the company two years ago that helped lead to the proposed settlement. “I’m pretty pleased with it. Overall, I think this is pretty significant.”
