The ceremony will include a visit to Syringa's network operations center where Gov. Otter will formally throw the switch to 'light' IRON.
IRON will connect state government, research institutions, education and health care facilities across Idaho. More importantly, it will enable Idaho researchers to collaborate on regional, national and international research projects by providing the foundation to link Idaho to Internet2 and the National Lambda Rail. In the future, IRON expects this network will be deployed state-wide to make this high-speed access available to all of Idaho.
This initial 'lighting' will connect IRON's charter associates: Idaho National Laboratory and state universities. Charter associates are INL, the state of Idaho, Boise State University, Washington State University, the University of Idaho, Brigham Young University-Idaho and the Idaho Hospital Association.
