Closing Plenary Session Recaps Progress and Successes of NGA Winter Meeting The National Governors Association 2008 Winter Meeting concluded today with a closing plenary session reinforcing the role of states in advancing a clean energy future for America and highlighting the recent successes of NGA's Securing a Clean Energy Future Initiative (SCEF Initiative).

"From the discussions we've had these past three days, it's clear that governors are leading the way to 'Americanize' this country's energy future," said NGA Chair Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty. "This Initiative is not just about improving the way we produce energy in this country, it's about improving our national security, our economic well-being and our overall quality of life."

Gov. Schweitzer tussles with other governors at national conference

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer http://governor.mt.gov/ tussled with other governors and administration officials over clean energy technologies, the Real ID program and National Guard support during an annual conference of the National Governors Association this weekend.

The Montana Democrat said he was frustrated because the governors failed to reach consensus on a forward-looking strategy on clean energy issues. The group may end up issuing a majority opinion along with a dissenting minority view, he said.
