Really? It’s hard to visualize the Last Best State’s governor – known for wearing flashy bolo ties and taking a canine companion named Jag to work – being a kindred spirit with the unassuming Dr. No.
But the Texas Congressman and Montana’s alpha male Democrat do share a common cause: They are both passionately opposed to the REAL ID Act. That’s the federal law - H.R. 418 - which passed in 2005 and goes into effect this May. It will require states to meet federal issuance standards (e.g. machine-readable technology) for drivers’ licenses. This de facto national ID card would be needed in order to have access to government services and programs, such as commercial airplane travel or entry into a federal courthouse.
