Yellowstone Club http://www.theyellowstoneclub.com/ and the Montana Meth Project http://www.montanameth.org today announced a special benefit ski race, dinner, and auction event on Friday, February 29, and Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana. Tickets for the two-day event are $2,500 and include skiing at the world’s only private ski and golf community, Yellowstone Club and Big Sky Resort, two evening receptions, an exclusive dinner featuring 5-star cuisine and wine pairings, and a special benefit auction. Proceeds will support the Montana Meth Project’s statewide prevention program, which is credited with reducing Meth use among teens by 45% and Meth-related crime by 52% in two years.
Other activities during this two-day event will include team racing and cross country skiing at Yellowstone Club and Big Sky Resort. Saturday evening dinner will be an exceptional gastronomic experience designed and prepared by acclaimed chef Tony Mantuano, with exquisite Gaja wine pairings hand-selected by Italian winemaker Gaia Gaja.
Chef Mantuano, of Chicago’s noted Spiaggia, will create a memorable culinary feast for the Saturday evening dinner. Long considered a trailblazer who is credited with bringing regional Italian cuisine to America, Mantuano was awarded the prestigious “Best Chef: Midwest” designation by the James Beard Foundation in 2005. Under Mantuano’s direction, Spiaggia has earned a reputation as one of the very best Italian fine dining restaurants in America, hailed by Zagat, Chicago magazine, and the Chicago Tribune. With co-author Cathy Mantuano, Mantuano wrote The Spiaggia Cookbook: Eleganza Italiana in Cucina, voted one of the 25 best cookbooks of 2004 by Food and Wine magazine.
Gaia Gaja, a passionate and erudite fifth-generation winemaker, will personally select and introduce the wine pairings for this extraordinary meal. Her family’s vineyards, the Gaja Winery, is located in the famed winemaking Cuneo region of Piedmont, Italy, and has built a reputation for producing some of Italy’s most prestigious wines. In addition to popularizing Piedmontese wines across the world, the Gaja Winery has been credited with a number of innovations in wine-making, including the use of barriques, the 225-liter French oak barrels for aging Barbaresco, the production of single vineyard designations, and planting the Piedmont’s first Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc vineyards.
