The Community Economic Development Hot Report

November 14, 2007

The U.S. Census Bureau has launced a new information tool called the Community Economic Development Hot Report. (See link).

http://smpbff2.dsd.census.gov/TheDataWeb_HotReport/servlet/HotReportEngineServlet?emailname=whazard@census.gov&filename=ed_home.hrml>

There are 6 subreports:

Summary

Economic

Demographics

Housing

Transportation

Community Assets

Once at the web page, the person chooses the state and county then chooses a sub report. Within these reports are more subreports, such as employment by industry.

There is still some Census 2000 data (like educational attainment) but Census is also bringing in data from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration and the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration. The income data, unfortunately, is still Census 2000 data even though the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Economic Analysis has 2005 data. (see www.bea.gov)
