Increased Compensation Puts More College Presidents in the Million-Dollar Club. Montana's Presidents aren't even at $200K

Soaring compensation of university presidents, once limited to a few wealthy institutions, is becoming increasingly common, with the number of million-dollar pay packages at private institutions nearly doubling last year, and compensation at many public universities not far behind.

State employees’ pay eclipses governor’s

The state’s second-highest employee is Commissioner of Higher Education Sheila Stearns at $203,862 a year.

Next in line are the presidents of the state’s two major universities, George Dennison of the University of Montana, and Geoff Gamble of Montana State University, who each are paid $197,925. Both university presidents also live in state-provided homes.
