"MAPS: Media Arts in the Public Schools" program has attracted national attention — Peter Rosten advises kids, 'It only takes one yes to change your life'

November 8, 2007

It almost sounds like a movie: Hollywood guy moves to Darby, Montana, and creates a film company using local kids.

Its title: "MAPS: Media Arts in the Public Schools. http://www.mediarts.org/ " Directed and produced by Peter Rosten, who really did retire from a career as a Hollywood producer and director. Starring about 120 high school students who are now attracting national clients and six-figure fees for their commercials.

Rosten arrived in the Bitterroot Valley, looking forward to fishing and skiing and working cattle on his retirement ranch. That was fun for about two years.

So he thought about opening a sushi bar in Hamilton. But the Bitterroot is beef country.
