"We knew this would be a tough session going in," said Brown. "The rhetoric around the (General) Election and the list of pre-filed bills reflected a real threat to doing business in Big Sky Country."
"Tax legislation grabbed both the major headlines and attention of the business community as well as individual taxpayers," said Mary Whittinghill, President of the Montana Taxpayers Association. Proposed bills that were successfully defeated would have significantly increased taxes on nearly every business and individual in Montana.
Fortunately, the Montana Chamber and the Montana Taxpayers Association felt the efforts of the business community to educate new legislators and officials stopped the most onerous of these provisions.
