Exciting Additions to Conference!

We have been busy with behind-the-scenes planning for Grassroots & Groundwork 2008! Exciting new additions to the conference schedule include:

Kerri Miller, Gregory Gray, Mark Greenberg and Candy Hill confirmed for Thursday luncheon panel!

With Kerri Miller as moderator, you can be assured of a dynamic discussion on Setting Deadlines to End Poverty. Hear how three organizations (Center for American Progress, Minnesota Legislative Commission to End Poverty, and Catholic Charities USA) have marshaled the focus and support needed for their bold goals. Learn about the coalitions and risks that come with these efforts.

Tom Vilsack joining us as Friday keynote speaker!

As former governor, mayor and state senator of Iowa, Tom Vilsack has a great deal of insight about Linking Grassroots Poverty Reduction and Public Policy. In this interactive session, attendees will be able to tap Vilsack's 30 years of grassroots and state-level policymaking experience.

Film series unveiled ~ new format for 2008!

We are pleased to feature a groundbreaking documentary series, UNNATURAL CAUSES: Is Inequality Making Us Sick?, which addresses the socioeconomic roots of health inequities in America. A compelling hour-long opening episode will be followed by several half-hour stories, each set in different racial and ethnic communities. After the short stories, lively facilitated discussions will be held, with handouts on how to educate, organize and advocate for policies that promote well-being for everyone.

UNNATURAL CAUSES and its companion tools bring into view how economic justice, racial equality and caring communities may be the best medicines of all. You don’t want to miss this series. Our Web site provides a glimpse of what you can expect to see in each story.

Juma Ventures added to break-out session lineup!

Juma Ventures, of San Francisco, Calif., cited by Harvard Business Review for their successful and innovative youth Individual Development Account (IDA) program, will be joining our already great lineup of 2008 G&G break-out session presenters. Stomping Grounds, of Staples, Minn., unfortunately had to cancel their presentation.

Conference scholarships still available!

The deadline for Grassroots & Groundwork 2008 scholarships is just around the corner. Scholarships are awarded to eligible applicants on a first-come, first-served basis until May 9, 2008, or until all funds have been distributed.
