Entrepreneurs talk future of Bozeman’s Midtown

Bear Paw Development Corporation is a private non-profit organization created for the purpose of administering programs to help improve regional economic conditions in Hill, Blaine, Liberty, Chouteau and Phillips Counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy's Indian Reservations.

A panel of entrepreneurs Monday embodied an advertisement for the business city officials hope fills in a swath of Bozeman fighting to catch some of the town’s boom.

Nick Checota, owner of Logjam Presents, is the man leading the effort to build a music venue to fit 1,500 people on North Seventh Avenue. Checota’s resume includes renovating Missoula’s iconic Wilma Theatre and Top Hat Lounge.

Echoing the "if you build it they will come" mentality on Monday, Checota described the scene of crowds arriving in Bozeman for artists who, in the past, left Montana off their lists of stops. He talked about people swinging into local restaurants, bars and hotels after a show.
