New director Chris Dobbs leads the Museum of the Rockies
As a college student Chris Dobbs thought dentistry would make a nice, safe career, but his summer gig working at a history museum changed his life.
That summer at the Farmers Museum in Cooperstown, New York, where daily life in an 1840s village was recreated, Dobbs sometimes got to act as different villagers – farmers, militiamen, tavern workers, cabinet makers, broom squires.
"This is what I can do with my history degree," Dobbs thought. "Teach people about the past, with an immersive experience."
That started Dobbs’ career in museums. After 25 years working in small regional museums back east, he has been hired as executive director of the Museum of the Rockies https://www.museumoftherockies.org/ in Bozeman, part of Montana State University.
