A room of one’s own: Affordable artist studios are a growing business in Billings

"It makes me more productive to actually have an official place to go work," Lightner said. "I get to the studio, I’m focused and I choose what I want to do."
Hers is one of 11 artist spaces in Billings Open Studio, which has formed a business around its available square footage. And business is stable for the niche market, which targets artists who are far enough past the "starving" phase to move into a work space of their own.
