Kalispell Chamber Announces Support of $1M Elementary School Levy Request

The Kalispell Chamber of Commerce announced its support for a ‘yes’ vote for the upcoming $1M elementary school levy request on May 8.

The Chamber’s Board of Directors, who represent businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions of the Flathead Valley, moved to fully support Kalispell Public School’s request. Reasoning behind the unanimous vote included points such as: good schools are one of the primary considerations in business and personal relocations to Kalispell; Kalispell is one of the fastest growing cities in the state and nation over the past 25 years; the last elementary general fund levy was approved in the spring of 2012 with continued enrollment growth over the last several years; and, the $1.5 million of reserve funds the school district is expected to spend over the next year is not sustainable in the future.

"Students represent our next generation of workforce and we want to ensure a competitive economy and continued quality education for the future of the Flathead Valley," said Joe Unterreiner, President/CEO of the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce.

"This levy will help ensure all of our elementary schools and Kalispell Middle School will have top-notch school safety and security, curriculum and instruction, will bridge the gap between the reduced state funding and basic school operations."
