Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Have a New ‘Duty’ to Serve Rural America

New rules require these mortgage giants to do more business in rural America, freeing up more capital there for additional home mortgages. The best way to do this would be for Fannie and Freddie to work with groups that already know the rural housing market: housing providers, nonprofits, and tribal organizations.
