MSU field tests push oil and natural gas well-sealing technology closer to commercial application

Aided by a one-of-a-kind mobile laboratory, Montana State University researchers and their industry partners are advancing a new way to fix leaking oil and natural gas wells: with rock-forming bacteria.
The MSU team recently towed the new lab — a 28-foot-long, double-axle trailer outfitted with pumps, a generator and specialized equipment — to Indiana for the first of three field tests to be completed this year.
