Will the State of Montana have to pay some canceled roundabout costs?

"From a safety perspective, the roundabout alternative is the only option to both reduce crash rates and severity as well as ideally remove the right-angle crash trend from future events,"

Even though the state has halted a $3 million roundabout project in Grass Range, there is some question as to if and how much in federal dollars Montana may have to pay back to the U.S. government for pulling the plug.

A worst-case scenario for the work already completed on the project could be as much as $750,000, but state officials and others involved say they are not expecting that as some payback estimates bandied about at recent meetings have reportedly topped off at $70,000 to $90,000.

The best-case scenario is nothing at all, but there will be some kind of public safety road project at the intersection.
