Montana Tech’s budget woes lead to efforts to ‘right-size’
December 24, 2017 /
The predicament results from an anticipated budget shortfall of about $3 million for the coming fiscal year that reflects a decrease in state funding, reduced revenue from a tax levy, and recent drops in enrollment. That combination will likely yield layoffs of some professional and hourly staff during the fiscal year that begins July 1.
For the time being, cuts are not anticipated during fiscal year 2019 in tenured faculty or tenure-track faculty, with reductions in the ranks of these teachers relying on natural attrition.
