Flathead Valley Community College to Offer New Solar Energy Class Spring Semester

FVCC announces a new class on solar energy for people interested in learning how to install and control photovoltaic systems. "Introduction to Photovoltaic Systems" is a four-credit class that includes lecture, labs and hands-on experience. The class is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Fridays beginning January 26 and concluding May 11. Tuition and fees for the course include a small photovoltaic system for each student’s personal use with an RV, boat or at home.

In order to register for the class, students must first be admitted to FVCC for the spring semester. The deadline to apply for admission is January 16.

Master Electrician William Gross of Gross Electric and FVCC Electrical Technology instructor Carol Vincent will teach the class. Under Gross and Vincent’s instruction, students will grid-tie a pole-mount solar array with a backup battery to offset a portion of the total power consumption used by FVCC’s agriculture building.

For more information about the class, contact Vincent at [email protected]. For information about applying for admission to FVCC and registering for the class, contact Cynthia French at (406)756-3604 or visit http://www.fvcc.edu/apply. The college will be closed December 23-January 3.
