Montana’s fragmented University System struggles to pull together

Montana’s colleges and universities originated 124 years ago as separate, distant, often competing campuses.
For the last 24 years, higher education leaders have been trying to pull the state’s eight campuses together to function more like one system, the Montana University System.
It hasn’t been easy.
A big issue is whether the way the University System reorganized itself in 1993 is working or not.
