system news and information to strengthen the awareness that taxpayers and tuition
payers
have about higher
-education options, finances, issues and outcomes. The
marketing of MUS programs and the value of educational opportunity is an essential

University System hiring spokesman in time of budget cuts

Montana’s commissioner of higher education is moving ahead with plans to hire a new communications director, at a time when the University System is facing state budget cuts that could exceed $42 million over two years and possibly result in layoffs.

Commissioner Clay Christian told the Board of Regents last month that advertising for the new communications director’s position had started and he intends to “move forward full steam ahead.”

“We desperately need” a communications director, Christian said. “It’s critically important we get the word out.… We have not done enough to tell our story.”
