The consultant leading the recruitment for a new president at the University of Montana has talked with more than 24 potential candidates — but fewer than 100 — about the job and the campus.

But James McCormick, with AGB Search, said most serious candidates won’t turn in applications until closer to July 21, the deadline "for best consideration." He anticipates anywhere from 60 to 80 applications in all.

"I can tell you I’m having lots of calls and lots of interest from people who want to talk about the possibilities. And I believe we’ll have a strong pool."
