New Non-Profit Provides Funds to Families of Fallen Montana Officers – The Montana Guardian Fund

In Montana history, 128 peace officers have died in the line of duty. That number
increased by one on May 16 of this year when a gunman shot and killed Broadwater
County Deputy Mason Moore during a routine traffic stop.

Moore leaves behind a wife and three children, which is a common story for fallen
officers. These spouses and children have to cope with not only death, but also the
financial burden sudden loss brings. That’s where The Montana Guardian Fund steps in.

As one of its first acts as a new non-profit, $15,000 was donated to the Montana Sheriffs
and Peace Officers Association and The Montana Guardian Fund http://www.montanaguardianfund.com hopes to add to this and
generate $2 million for aid for any future catastrophe. That’s why it’s launching a
campaign June 13 to build these coffers. With increased funds, it can continue to help
families like Moore’s for the long haul when these tragic events occur in our state.

"Money cannot replace a family’s loved one, but it can help alleviate financial worry. We
want to make it easier for Montanans to help take care of their own," Flathead County
Sheriff Chuck Curry said.
Internet fundraising sites are a terrific grassroots way to raise money for families in times
of need, but they can keep up to 9% of the donation for processing fees. In contrast, 97
cents of every dollar donated to The Montana Guardian Fund goes directly to families of
fallen or injured officers, making your donations go further. The Montana Guardian Fund
hopes that Montanans will make the annual commitment to help financially support first
responders and their families who have paid the ultimate price.

We invite you to join us in Helena at the Radisson Colonial Hotel in Helena, at 8:30 a.m. on
Wednesday, June 14, 2017 for our campaign kickoff event.

Sheriffs Chuck Curry and
Tony Harbaugh will be on hand for both print and television interviews. Organizers hope
to raise $2 million over the next year. Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 1182, Miles
City, Montana 59301, and the option to donate online at http://www.montanaguardianfund.org
will be available soon. Donations are tax-deductible.
