Taxes, as the saying goes, are the price we pay for civilization — but whether Bozeman taxpayers are getting a good deal out of city government specifically, well, that’s a fair question as city hall heads into budget season.
As city commissioners dive into their annual review of the city budget this month, fine-tuning a proposal prepared by the municipality’s professional staff, they’re looking at a total of $111 million in spending.
That comes in at $2,467 for each of the city’s 45,000 residents — money dedicated to everything from basic water, transportation and public safety to programs like the city library, parks and economic development.
