6-mill levy for Montana universities may be in trouble
June 6, 2017 /
Every 10 years since 1948, Montana voters have agreed to impose a 6-mill property tax levy to keep tuition low for state college and university students, but there are signs that next year’s ballot measure could be in trouble.
A recent poll asked voters if they would support the 6-mill levy if it were on the ballot today, and only 48 percent said yes, the Montana Board of Regents learned last month.
Voter support has been on "a downward slide," Regent Bob Nystuen, a Kalispell banker, warned.
