Western states top new list of country's "most dynamic"

June 2, 2017View for printing

Western states are the most dynamic in the country, according to a new report by the Economic Innovation Group that analyzes new business formation, job creation and geographic mobility of the work force. This week's Best of the West news roundup shares that list of states, details a big solar power success in Wyoming, sheds light on eclipse tourism in Idaho, and offers photos of a dramatic standoff between a mother bear and a marauding coyote after her young calf.

The Western Governors welcome Jeff Bridges, Academy Award-winning actor and No Kid Hungry national spokesperson, to the 2017 Annual Meeting June 26-28 in Whitefish, Montana. Bridges will join the Governors to discuss his work to end childhood hunger. Eleven Western Governors will attend the meeting, hosted by WGA Chair and Montana Gov. Steve Bullock: Dennis Daugaard (South Dakota), Matt Mead (Wyoming), Brian Sandoval (Nevada), Gary Herbert (Utah), Bill Walker (Alaska), David Ige (Hawaii), Doug Burgum (North Dakota), John Hickenlooper (Colorado), and Butch Otter (Idaho). Keynotes will be delivered by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, pollster Frank Luntz and mountaineer Conrad Anker.
