Big News: Solar Roadways has been chosen as a winner in Colorado Department of Transportation’s RoadX Bicycle and Pedestrian Challenge!

Big News: Solar Roadways http://www.solarroadways.com/ has been chosen as a winner in Colorado Department of Transportation’s RoadX Bicycle and Pedestrian Challenge! We went to Denver last week for the award ceremony which was covered by Denver 7 TV (below). This contest provides the funding for us to develop a new system which will be a terrific complement to SR. We call it the ColorRoadie Safety System and it will be a way to alert drivers about the presence of bicycles and pedestrians. It will increase their visibility and hence their safety. We will create software, firmware, and custom RF bracelets (for pedestrians) and tags (for bicycles and cars) which will work hand in hand with Solar Roadways panels for those who would like to take advantage of this additional safety feature for their family, their bicycle or even their pets! Vehicles can choose to be outfitted with a tag that warns the bicycle or pedestrian of their presence. Watch for many updates about this technology as it’s developed over the coming months.

We are grateful to the Colorado Department of Transportation for choosing SR’s ColorRoadie system as one of the winners: http://www.imagineco.us/en/company/roadx-winners

CDOT awards bike safety technology of the future

One in every 10 serious crashes in Colorado involves a bicycle or a pedestrian. CDOT is trying to improve on that, so it has turned to the general public for ideas.

Engineers, contractors, safety experts and more put their best concepts on the table for how to protect the non-car driving public. It turns out that involves a lot of cutting-edge technology.
