Let’s Improve Missoula’s Reserve Street – Please register your thoughts.

Does the planned barrier on centerline on Reserve St. from Mullan Rd. to the south need to be extended to 3rd St.? If so, "Like" this post so we can work to make this happen. If this post has at least 500 Likes by June 16th, we’ll present this "online petition" to the Montana Department of Transportation in an effort to further reduce the number of severe accidents on the dangerous "S-curve" section of Reserve St.

The “S-curve” section of Reserve St. (between Mullan Rd. and 3rd St.) is a notoriously dangerous and fast-driving section. Numerous severe accidents, some fatal, have occurred on this stretch in recent years. Yet very little has been done to improve safety in this section. The Montana Dept. of Transportation (MDT) confirmed this week that preliminary design plans are drafted for some of that section, yet no project date has been scheduled (probably due to priority and budgetary reasons). MDT’s current plan is to eventually install 2’8" high concrete barrier rail (see barrier design in MDT link below) on the centerline between Mullan Rd. and River Rd. It is supposedly “a very simple project, but it will require some shifting of lane lines” and "funding for the project is limited to correcting the crashes that have occurred on the bridge," according to MDT. Is this planned improvement between Mullan Rd. and River Rd. sufficient in this accident-prone area of Reserve St. ?
