SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION

The GIS engineer with work with the BT team, the GIS coordinator and the rest of the integrity team to build the necessary functionality into the GIS system to efficiently input new data and interface with existing data systems. Build policy and procedures for maintaining accurate present-day and historical data. Input pipelines and pipeline data into the system as required to make the system fully functional for IVP/MAOP requirements, compliance reporting, risk assessment analysis, operational use and engineering functions.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy’s values, mission, and strategic business objectives
Facilitate, manage and execute project activities for a variety of GIS software installations and data migration projects
Evaluate existing data and processes and develop action plans for migration to our enterprise GIS
Install or upgrade database software
Configure software, web services and database software
Troubleshoot issues with both GIS software and user interfaces
Test new software functionality and bug fixes
Prepare and perform detailed product demonstrations
Train on product operations, functionality and usage
Manage and perform data conversion projects
Consult on new projects and implementation of software and services
Provide technical support for both client GIS office staff and field technicians
Develop methods and processes to populate data fields with expanded data
Assist with day to day data input and updates as necessary

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
B.S degree in Engineering required
At least 2-3 Years of practical GIS Analysis and/or IT experience; a Certified GIS Professional (GISP) is a plus
Practical working knowledge of ArcGIS software, including ArcGIS desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE and ArcGIS Online
Must be proficient in building and maintaining spatial databases in enterprise GIS applications
Programming experience (Python, Java, HTML5) and workflow automation is a plus
Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) scripting language to retrieve data from relational database management systems
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in GIS analysis
Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge of gas design parameters and codes a plus
Exceptional Communication Skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Ability to multi-task with exceptional time management skills
Ability to work in a fast paced and deadline driven environment
