Bear Paw Development makes a mark in Montana

For nearly 50 years, Bear Paw Development Corp. has left its mark on north-central Montana’s economy by helping local communities, governments and entrepreneurs meet their economic development needs.

Bear Paw, the oldest economic development district in Montana and one of the oldest in the nation, is made up of Blaine, Chouteau, Hill, Liberty and Phillips counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy’s Indian reservations.

Economic development districts are entities created in areas that meet criteria by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Member cities, counties and reservations can then apply for grants, gain access to other sources of revenue and receive consultation on community planning through a district organization.

"Our impact on northern Montana is long lasting. We have been around for nearly 50 years and every single year that we have been in existence, we move the dial a little bit more," Bear Paw Development Executive Director Paul Tuss said.
