Montana Rep. Kathy Kelker, D-Billings introduces preschool bill – Early Edge

Gov. Steve Bullock’s preschool proposal has made it to the Legislature.

The Democratic governor made a $12 million ask for public preschool in his budget proposal last fall. Montana is one of six states without state-funded public preschool.

Bullock’s request is now in House Bill 563, introduced Thursday by Rep. Kathy Kelker, D-Billings. It has been referred to the House Education Committee.

Bullock and other Democrats have long called for preschool. He asked in the last legislative session for $37 million in preschool funding; Republicans shot it down.
