Lawmakers reject Bullock’s cut of their funding; now what?

On mostly party-line votes, majority Republicans on Friday rejected Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock’s attempt to force them to cut spending in the bill funding the 2017 legislative session.

The votes in the Senate Friday send the $11.5 million bill back to Bullock, who now must accept it or veto it outright, the latter of which could throw funding of the session into question.

"I’m certainly disappointed in those legislators that think increasing their own spending 10 times more than the rest of state government is a wise idea," Bullock said in a statement.
