Founder of Adventure Cycling Greg Siple celebrates retirement from career that merged his love of art and bicycles

The story of "America’s Bicycle Route" started with Greg Siple, but it won’t end with his retirement.

On Sunday, friends and fans of the man who helped inspire the Bikecentennial cross-country adventure in 1976 and went on to open Adventure Cycling’s headquarters in Missoula https://www.adventurecycling.org/ will celebrate both his 71st birthday and his last day with the organization.

"Greg is one of the four founders of Adventure Cycling, and the only one still on staff after all these years," said Jim Sayer, Adventure Cycling’s executive director. "We wouldn’t be where we are today, and neither would bicycle travel, without Greg’s quiet, effective commitment to the mission of Adventure Cycling."

Siple credited his father Charles for his two biggest passions: bicycling and art.
