WGA Winter Meeting Day 1: Governors discuss Presidential transition, unveil resolution on state-federal relationship

The Western Governors addressed the incoming administration and unveiled a resolution focused on realigning the state-federal relationship to provide states with early and substantive input in the development of regulatory policies
during opening day of WGA’s 2016 Winter Meeting.

The day’s sessions, hosted by WGA Chair and Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, included a keynote address by Canadian Ambassador David MacNaughton, who noted that his nation would work with the new administration. A keynote by David Eagles of the Partnership for Public Service emphasized the importance of early planning in the Presidential transition. Panels also included a roundtable on the state-federal relationship and a discussion with former Western Governors Dave Freudenthal of Wyoming and Mike Leavitt of Utah.

The Western Governors’ Association represents the Governors of 19 Western states and 3 U.S.-flag islands. The association is an instrument of the Governors for bipartisan policy development, information exchange and collective action on issues of critical importance to the Western United States.
