Political landmine: Montana campaigns are zeroing in on public lands — and for good reason

One of the biggest political land mines this election season could be public lands.
The majority of Montanans identify strongly with the outdoor life, and candidates who don’t could be political fish out of water.
"It’s certainly not a pro-Democrat or pro-Republican message," said Aaron Weiss, of the Center for Western Priorities. "It’s one that says being for public lands, and for balanced energy development, is what’s successful."
