Gianforte’s tax plan would save millions for natural resource companies

The top 10 payers of Montana’s business equipment tax in 2015 are the state’s industrial heavyweights, according to data from the state’s Department of Revenue.

The top three companies are oil companies — Cenex, Phillips 66, and Exxon Mobil — who operate refineries near Billings.

They’re also major benefactors of the proposed tax plan by Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Gianforte.

Educators oppose eliminating equipment tax

A group of educators spoke out Friday against a proposal by Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Gianforte to cut the business equipment tax, saying it would take away $33 million a year from education and would be another failed attempt at trickle-down economics.
