Governor Bullock tours a shipping container converted into a 1.8-acre farm in Bozeman
April 15, 2016 /
The 40-foot, $82,000 container built by Freight Farms, a Massachusetts company, is the first in Montana. It sits on a cement pad next to her home. With a $50,000 "Growth through Agriculture" grant from the state, Curren is adding a second this month to grow herbs.
Each is capable of growing 4,000 plants at a time — all from organic, non-GMO, heirloom seeds and without the use of herbicides or pesticides — using 10 gallons of water per day. The growing season is four weeks.
