Funding cuts begin to hit Forest Service – Trail Maintenance Biggest Loser

Money for trails work will be harder to come by for the Custer Gallatin National Forest in the next few years, as agency funding changes begin to take hold.

The Custer Galllatin National Forest’s trail budget is down about 9 percent for 2016, which comes to about $90,000 fewer federal dollars available to be spent on trail maintenance, reconstruction or bridge work. This year’s reduction is the first in a series of three that are expected to reduce the forest’s trail work budget by about $300,000 by 2018.
