‘Breakthrough’ science wows filmmakers Ron Howard, Brian Grazer
Oscar winners Ron Howard and Brian Grazer have found engaging drama in movies and miniseries with scientific angles, such as A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13 and From the Earth to the Moon.
Now, they’re putting their storytelling skills to work on real-world scientific advancement in National Geographic Channel’s Breakthrough (Sunday, 9 p.m. ET/PT).
Six one-hour documentaries directed by Howard and other entertainment luminaries — actors Angela Bassett and Paul Giamatti, directors Peter Berg and Brett Ratner and Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman — tackle timely topics such as water scarcity, longevity and robotics technology. Berg’s Fighting Pandemics opens the series.
